Subwoofers-March-2016

Our New Subwoofer Family

The latest members of our Balanced Drive line of transducers are a complete line of subwoofer units.
There are five sizes to chose from: 4”, 5”, 6”, 8”, and 10”.
All share the same extensive feature list:

  • Balanced Drive motor structure for optimal drive force symmetry resulting in largely reduced even order harmonic distortion
  • Large linear stroke, ensuring low distortion at high output levels
  • Rigid (air-dried on 8” and 10”) paper cone to ensure piston motion even at high levels - for reduced distortion
  • Rigid steel chassis with extensive venting for lower air flow speed reducing audible distortion
  • Vented center pole (except on 4”) with dual flares for reduced noise level at large cone excursions
  • Heavy-duty fiber glass voice coil former to reduce mechanical losses resulting in better dynamic performance and low-level details
  • Large motor structure for better control and power handling
  • Built-in alu field-stabilizing ring for reduced distortion at high levels
  • Low-loss suspension (high Qm) for better reproduction of details and dynamics
  • Black plated motor parts for better heat transfer to the surrounding air
  • Conex spider for better durability under extreme conditions
  • Gold plated terminals to ensure long-term trouble free connection
  • Delivered with foam gasket attached for hassle-free mounting and secure cabinet sealing

Introducing the small super tweeter TW013WA01 !

TW013WA02TW013WA01 is a very compact high performance tweeter that is ideal either as a super tweeter in high-end Hi Fi speakers or as tweeter in small compact 2-way systems.

Innovation
Despite being designed for ultimate high frequency performance no compromise has been accepted at the lower frequencies either. The TW013WA01 incorporates an outside ring neodymium magnet, which allows effective venting through the center pole to a rear volume. It means that the TW013WA01  offers a very low resonance frequency for its size - even lower than many larger tweeters.

Construction article:

Building the “Loire Top” compact 2-way speaker

loire_top225
The German speaker DIY magazine Klang + Ton published in their 1/2014 issue a construction article building a 2-way high end speaker using the Wavecor 7” woofer WF182BD12 and 30 mm tweeter TW030WA10.
Wavecor have obtained the rights to publish the design and the results.
The design is free to use for personal application but may not be used commercially in any way without prior written permission.

kt_2014_1The article is so far available as the original PDF version from Klang + Ton magazine (German language) while all design details and measurements are available separately within the complete PDF file, available for download here.
A complete English translation may be available at a later point in time.

This is Part 1 of a series of two articles, where Part 2 will cover building a combined subwoofer/stand extension for the Loire Top bookshelf speaker. Part 2 will be available here at wavecor.com during the month of April 2014.
