Our New Family

The latest members of our Balanced Drive line of mid/woofers are here now.
There are three sizes to chose from: 4”, 6” and 7”, each size available in 4 and 8 ohms.
The 6” and 7” will even be available in frames truncated on two opposing sides.
All share the same extensive feature list:

  • Balanced Drive motor structure for optimal drive force symmetry resulting in largely reduced even order harmonic distortion
  • Copper cap covering the center pole to reduce voice coil inductance and to minimize variations of voice coil inductance as a function of voice coil position
  • Cone made of a new paper/glass fiber mix with improved consistency and stability
  • Rigid die cast alu chassis with extensive venting for lower air flow speed reducing audible distortion
  • Vented voice coil former for reduced distortion and compression
  • Vented center pole with dual flares for reduced noise level at large cone excursions
  • Heavy-duty black fiber glass voice coil former to reduce mechanical losses  resulting in better dynamic performance and low-level details
  • Large motor with 1” to 1” voice coil diameter for better control and power handling
  • Built-in alu flux-stabilizing ring for reduced distortion at high levels
  • Low-loss suspension (high Qm) for better reproduction of details and dynamics
  • Black motor parts for better heat transfer to the surrounding air
  • Conex spider for better durability under extreme conditions
  • Gold plated terminals to ensure long-term trouble free connection

The History

Last year we were forced to discontinue our highly successful line of mid/woofers with Nomex cones. It proved impossible for us to source the Nomex cones in a quality and with a consistency that would meet our strict requirements. After having worked with different cone suppliers without results we decided to take another path: To find a cone material that would be suitable for replacing the Nomex cones. Obviously a very demanding task as we wanted to offer our customers some direct replacements for the Nomex cone versions in terms of Thiele/Small parameters, frequency response and all other acoustical characteristics, plus very similar appearance.
We have reached the goal and the above mid/woofers with new paper/glass fiber mix cones are the results
